Biomembrane Surface Analysis
Laboratory
Our ability to engineer tissues, prevent viral infection, and develop biomedical devices hinges upon and understanding of how cell membrane structure influences cellular function. We are developing new chemical imaging approachs to probe how cell membrane organization affects the cell's interactions with its environment. We employ imaging secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS), tissue culture, quantitative engineering principles, and synthetic organic chemistry to answer important questions in the biological sciences, particularly in the area of disease development.
