ChemTracking - SCS Chemical Database

ChemTracking - SCS Chemicals Database

ChemTracking History

In 2004, the School of Chemical Sciences launched a Chemical Tracking initiative with the goal of creating a single, online database containing information on its chemical stores in all of its facilities. The database will serve the graduate research community by streamlining chemical acquisition, providing safety information, reducing redundant purchases, assisting in laboratory organization, and saving researchers both time and money.

At present, more than half of the inventories of the research labs in Roger Adams Laboratory bave been incorporated into the database. Eventually all SCS facilities including research labs, storerooms, and teaching labs will be included in the database. Information such as physical properties, CAS registry numbers, Material Safety Data Sheets, NFPA ratings, and locations of of a material can easily be found by searching the database on a number of fields.

Many SCS research groups have put their inventory of chemicals in the ChemTracking database. Members of those specific groups will have logins and passwords to access the database. Members of groups who have not yet done this may browse for chemicals in the database by logging in with the username: scsviewer and password: titanium.

The database can only be accessed with a PC using Windows98 or later operating system, an IE browser, and from a UIUC IP or using a VPN connection elsewhere.
