Research
Stacie was born and raised in Tennessee. She did her undergraduate work at Murray State University with Dr. Fulgentius Lugemwa, analyzing contaminants in lake sediments and synthesizing carbohydrate derivatives as potential antibiotics. After obtaining her B.S. in chemistry (1999), Stacie joined the JET program and taught English in Japan for three years. Upon returning to the US, Stacie obtained her M.S. in chemistry (2005) at her alma mater under the direction of Dr. David A. Owen, synthesizing porphyrin derivatives for use in boron-neutron capture therapy (BNCT). In 2005, she came to the University of Illinois to obtain her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. She is currently working on the synthesis of oxazolidinone derivatives as potential ligands for RNA motifs.
Outside of lab, Stacie enjoys cooking, watching football (go Cowboys!), and studying Japanese language and culture.
