Abbi was born in Jacksonville, IL but grew up in Lodi, California. She did her undergraduate work at St. Mary's College of California, where she graduated in 2004 with a B.S. in chemistry. During her time there, she worked on an organic methodology project, as well as participating in a summer REU at the University of Minnesota, where she worked on the synthesis and reactivity studies of biomimetic non-heme iron complexes with Prof. Larry Que. In 2004, she came to the University of Illinois to obtain her Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. In the lab, she worked on the synthesis of peptide dendrimers to restore proper alternative splicing.
Outside of lab, Abbi spends time collecting and learning to play stringed instruments, being active with her church and the graduate chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ, and spending time with her cats Margie and Loretta.

Abbi is currently teaching Organic chemistry at Parkland College in Champaign, IL
