Coordinator of Research Programs - Extended Search
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois is seeking a Coordinator of Research Programs (Academic Professional position, full-time, 12 months) to start immediately. The incumbent will work directly with a research faculty member (Principal Investigator) to coordinate all research and development activities in his Laboratory. The Coordinator will be responsible for administering and monitoring the research budget, organizing grant proposal preparation and submission, assisting in editorial responsibilities and handling all research correspondence. The position requires initiative, judgment, problem solving skills, a high level of organization and the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously. Bachelor’s degree, plus experience in administration and editorial work, familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database management required. Research Specialist in Life Sciences
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is looking for a Research Specialist in Life Sciences. This position will support the investigation of biochemical basis of cell-cell signaling in the central and peripheral nervous systems of animals in a research laboratory within Chemistry. Duties include dissection and isolation of samples, including single cells from a large variety of model animals, followed by cell culture and analysis with a variety of biochemical and mass spectrometric characterization approaches.
This is a full-time, regular academic professional position. The position requires a minimum of a M.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in invertebrate and vertebrate animal care, sample preparation, microdissection, cell culture, and general laboratory maintenance. Salary is commensurate with experience. Start date is as soon as possible following the closing date.

Teaching Laboratory Specialist - Extended Search
The Teaching Laboratory Specialist within the Department of Chemistry at UIUC ensures smooth operation in the instructional laboratories of chemistry students.
This position has responsibility in laboratory and sample preparation, coordinating maintenance of instructional laboratory equipment, and oversight of students in a teaching lab setting. Effective management of clean-up and waste chemicals will be performed by the teaching lab specialist. Tracking chemical inventory and requisitioning materials as needed are included in the job tasks. The teaching laboratory specialist will be responsible for supervising student workers both in the teaching lab and on special projects.
A Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in chemistry, a related physical science, or engineering, plus experience assisting in a large general chemistry program is preferred. Written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and initiative are a must. The ability to work as part of a progressive team of chemists and chemical educators is also important.
Salary is negotiable based on experience. This is a full-time, 12 month academic professional position. Start date is as soon as possible after closing.

Director of General Chemistry Program - Extended Search
The Director oversees all aspects of our General Chemistry program, continuing our tradition of excellence and innovation in undergraduate instruction and providing state-of-the-art instruction in general chemistry to several thousand students every semester.
Ph.D. in chemistry or related field is required. Relevant skills required: managerial skills with a large diverse staff; demonstrated knowledge in modern teaching technologies; extensive teaching experience in chemical sciences; curriculum management including service and chemistry-major courses and their laboratory components; and proven excellence in the design of instructional materials.
Salary is negotiable based on experience. Based on the previous scholarly activity of the candidate, the appointment may be either an Academic Professional (full time, regular) or tenured/tenure-track with a negotiable start date, could be as early as August 16, 2007.
