Chemistry Courses with Merit Workshops

The Merit workshops are designed for freshmen and sophomore science, mathematics and engineering students. They are found in general chemistry, quantitative analysis, and organic chemistry.

Department of Chemistry Undergraduate Courses Listing

The merit workshop replaces weekly discussion sections in these courses. Merit students in these courses must register for a section designated a merit section in the timetable.

Merit workshops are held in addition to regularly scheduled class meetings. These workshops meet once weekly for 2 hours and are not listed in the timetable.

Replaces discussion one time/week.

Chemistry 199 credit

Students attending merit workshops are required to be in class an additional 2 hours weekly and have additional class responsibility. Merit students register for Chem 199 (Independent Study) each semester they enroll in a merit workshop. Merit Chem 199 registration is through Gretchen Adams only. A grade separate and independent of the chemistry course grade is earned for Chem 199. Student grades in Chem 199 are based on attendance, participation and preparation.
