Research: Bioengineering and Biophysics

Research in our group includes topics in molecular biophysics and bioengineering. We observe DNA, RNA, proteins, and polymers at the single molecule level to study both physical phenomena (polymer dynamics) and biological phenomena (enzymology). Students will be directly involved in synthesis of biomolecules using standard techniques in molecular biology and also in studying their behavior using tools in microscopy. Specific topics include: integrated microdevice development for medical analysis, biophysical characterization of biological & cellular processes, and biomaterials and polymer physics. Our research is highly interdisciplinary and lies at the interface of biology and engineering. In many cases, we are innovating novel tools for bioengineering at the molecular level, which presents exciting opportunities for motivated and interested students.
