The Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking a Research Programmer. This position will work directly with a research faculty member assisting in designing, building, integrating, maintaining, and documenting software systems in support of university research and development projects. Key responsibilities include (1) programming and documentation of code for a variety of computing platforms using a variety of programming languages and systems, (2) interacting with scientists and engineers to obtain performance specifications, (3) iterating on those specifications to develop effective software products, (4) preparing associated reports and presentations, and (5) serving as a liaison for researchers in the laboratory as well as for collaborators in other laboratories.

The person must have a high level of initiative and judgment and excellent communications, problem-solving, and time-management skills. The applicant must have an eye for detail and the ability to work with minimum supervision.

This is a 12 month, full-time academic professional position. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and is negotiable. A B.S. degree in computer science or engineering is required. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, and database management are essential.

Starting Date: As soon as possible after the closing date of July 2, 2008.
