APPROVED TECHNICAL ELECTIVES
For Students in the Chemical Engineering Concentration
Starting in the 2006-2007 or 2007-2008 Academic Year

Students in the chemical engineering curriculum must take at least 18 hours of approved technical electives. Distribution requirements for these 18 hours are:

  1. ChBE 471, 472 or 473, and 474 — 9 hours
  2. At least 6 hours must be in 400-level Chemical engineering courses.
  3. At least 3 hours must be in 400-level chemical engineering courses other than CHBE 497 and CHBE 499.
  4. One course must be IE 300 or STAT 400.

Those courses approved as technical electives are listed below. Courses other than those listed will not normally be accepted as technical electives (see Note 3 below, however). NOTE:
  1. In the list above, the term "all courses" means all renumbered courses listed in the 2002-2004 Courses Catalog. To determine whether a new course is acceptable, see your chemical engineering advisor. Course Numbers Crosswalk Table
  2. Courses listed on the previous lists of approved technical electives but not on this list will be accepted if they were taken during or before the semester for which the older list was marked effective.
  3. Courses such as "Special Topics in...", "Individual Study", "Honors Project", etc. are not included in the list above. However, such courses may be accepted as technical electives if the student can demonstrate that the topic of the course or project in question is in an area of engineering science suitable for a student in chemical engineering.
