Biography
I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a B.S. in
Chemistry, having performed research for Prof. Andrei Vedernikov. My primary
research focused on the undirected C-H bond activation and hydroxylation of
alkanes using PtII and PdII catalysts. I also had the chance to wet my feet in the
areas of physical and nuclear chemistry but decided my true calling was
organic chemistry.
Upon completion of my degree in 2007, I moved to Illinois and joined the
Denmark research group. My current research involves the development of new
[4+2]/[3+2] cycloaddition reactions for the direct formation of [4.3.0] fused
heterocycles from linear starting materials.
In my spare time I enjoy rock climbing, video games, and reading science fiction
and fantasy.
