Biography
In hindsight it is clear that my professional ambition would be in the sciences. My earliest childhood memories are of mixing my grandparents' household chemicals and observing the effect on the local plant and insect populations. Later on, this interest was solidified by a U.S. Department of Energy undergraduate research fellowship under Dr. Hugh O’Neill at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. In 2005, I graduated from Southern Utah University with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Chemistry and Biology.
My project in the Denmark group involves the study of the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of organosilicon compounds. Examples of the fluoride promoted, palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of non-aryl and non-vinyl trifluorosilanes are present in the literature. I am investigating the application of our fluoride-free, palladium-catalyzed silicon cross-coupling methodology with respect to these types of compounds.
When not enjoying the stimulus of the laboratory, I find pleasure in sharing time with my lovely wife Laci and son Bladen. My favorite past-times are movies, music, computers and electronics, camping, and daydreaming of snowboarding that fluffy, dry, powder snow found on the mountains of Utah.
