Pledging
Who
Can Pledge
Anyone
who has an interest in the Sciences and has taken at least
a year of Chemistry at U of I can pledge. Even
non-chemistry majors can join.
How To
Pledge
You
can get more information about or express interest in
pledging by visiting our booth on Quad-Day, coming to
various information sessions the we hold, or just by
emailing one of our Vice Master Alchemists
(VMA’s).
When To
Pledge
Pledging
usually starts in the few weeks of each semester. Check out
our calendar for dates of upcoming pledge events.
What
Pledging Entails
Pledging
for Alpha Chi Sigma is unlike pledging for most
fraternities: it’s actually fun. It’s a semester long
process and during this time you’ll get to meet some of the
great people that make up this organization, learn about
our history as a fraternity, and get the benefit of
attending many of our professional and social events!
Some
requirements of pledges:
- Pledges are asked to make a wooden hexagon, and are required to get signatures from both active members and AXE faculty members. This is a great way to personally talk with some of your professors who also went through this process!
- Pledges must also attend weekly meetings that usually last ~1 hour, to learn about the history of the fraternity, prepare for the end-of-semester pledge exam, and hang-out!
- Professional events are key to our fraternity, so we ask pledges to attend at least one professional event before becoming an active member.
