Pia believed that living among various people, studying many cultures and learning different customs taught her to appreciate and respect the people of this World. The qualities that made Pia special were gifts from the multicultural community of Urbana-Champaign. Here, she was greeted with open arms, respect, and boundless tolerance that allowed her to grow into the person that people loved.
Now, a fund has been created to reward women who share Pia's philosophy of life and wish to improve their multicultural experiences and education. This fund will allow a woman from a foreign country to travel to Urbana-Champaign for several months. Mothers are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to those with limited travel experience.
The travel fellowship will be advertised in foreign countries, using the most appropriate media. Applications will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees on an annual basis. The amount and duration of the awards will depend upon the contributions received by the Fund. The fellowship will consist of travel expenses to Urbana-Champaign, housing for one academic session and enrollment in at least one University course.
