Kenneth S. Suslick

Marvin T. Schmidt Professor of Chemistry;
Professor of Materials Science and Engineering;
Professor, Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology

     Professor Suslick received his B.S. from the California Institute of Technology in 1974, his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1978, and came to the University of Illinois immediately thereafter.
     The Suslick Research Group at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign is multi-disciplinary: our research projects involves individuals with interests not only in inorganic, but also in organometallic, bio-organic, materials (both inorganic and biomaterials), surface, analytical and physical chemistry.
     Our two major research areas (click here for a detailed description of the group's research) are the chemical effects of ultrasound (which includes nano-materials synthesis and sonoluminescence) and the bioinorganic and materials chemistry of metalloporphyrins and now especially, their applications as chemical sensors. Our recent interest in artificial olfaction and molecular recognitionis an exciting spinoff of the latter. As part of this diversity, we often collaborate with other researchers both at UIUC and at other universities across the world.

Note for potential postdoctoral applicants: Due to the very large volume of email applications for postdoctoral positions (~500 per year), I do not respond to applications sent by email. If you are seriously interested in postdoctoral research in my group, please send me by post a hardcopy of your CV together with reprints of three papers, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent separately.
